Philip Frystak of Marlton, who had attended Iowa State University as a graduate student, became separated from a group tubing down the river on Wednesday when they hit a tree according to KCCI TV.

The 29-year-old was found 50-feet upstream from where he had last been seen.

Ames police spokesman Sgt. Chris Crippen told WHO TV the river current had been much stronger during the week because of recent rain and the group had decided to end their tubing trip in Ames' Carr Park just before hitting the tree.

The strong current in the river made it dangerous for rescue crews to find Frystak and a diving team had to be called in to assist in the search, reports Iowa State Daily.
