BORDENTOWN — An overturned truck carrying 40,000 pounds of frozen chickens overturned on the New Jersey Turnpike on Friday afternoon.

The tractor trailer smashed through a guardrail between the northbound inner and outer lanes around 1 p.m. before coming to rest on the car lanes just north of Exit 7 for Route 206 in Bordentown, according to State Police spokesman Lt. Ted Schafer.

The driver was trapped for about 30 minutes.

Two of the three lanes were blocked by the trailer, but all three were closed for clean up and investigation. The trailer did not open, preventing the frozen chicken from spilling onto the road.

Video shows the guardrail was damaged. The guardrail will need to be repaired before the car lanes can be fully opened.

It was the second major incident on New Jersey highways on Friday. Earlier, a car went off the Garden State Parkway in Cranford, killing the driver and passenger.
