Two people were arrested on drug and weapon-related charges following a traffic stop in Atlantic City Tuesday night.

Just before 9:00, Ofc. Joseph Kelly with the Atlantic City Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop in the first block of South Ohio Avenue.

While speaking to the driver, Joseph Lawrence, and waiting for Lawrence to provide needed documents, Officer Kelly observed an open backpack with a handgun inside. Lawrence and his passenger, Tyheem Williams, were arrested with assistance from responding officers.

Ofc. Kelly recovered the backpack that contained the handgun and additionally found marijuana and paraphernalia used in the distribution of drugs, according to authorities.

Williams was also allegedly found in possession of a handgun during a search; Lawrence had numerous prescription pills in his possession.

Both men were also found to have outstanding warrants for their arrest.

CHARGES: Unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon without a serial number, transporting a firearm without a license, possession of large capacity magazine, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense, certain person not to possess a weapon, possession of CDS (three counts), possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public zone, and possession of CDS paraphernalia.


ARRESTED: Tyheem Williams, 20, of Millville

CHARGES: Unlawful possession of a weapon (two counts), possession of a weapon without a serial number, possession of large capacity magazine, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense, certain person not to possess a weapon, possession of CDS (three counts), possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public zone, and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

Both men were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
