2 Teens, Both Armed on the Boardwalk, Arrested in Atlantic City, NJ
Authorities in Atlantic City arrested two armed teenagers late last week.
On Friday, an ACPD detective received information that two teenagers on the boardwalk were each in possession of a handgun.
Detective Dodson along with numerous other police officers and members of the Surveillance Center searched for and located the juveniles near Arkansas Avenue on the Boardwalk shortly after 10:00 PM.
As officers converged on the group, the two allegedly fled.
- Sergeant Darrin Lorady chased one juvenile. The juvenile, 15, removed a handgun from his waistband and turned towards Sergeant Lorady who gave commands to drop the weapon. The juvenile complied, dropping the gun and was taken into custody without incident.
- The second juvenile was quickly apprehended and taken into custody. He discarded a handgun as officers moved in.
Chief James Sarkos said in a statement,
I commend our officers and surveillance personnel for their exceptional dedication and swift action in apprehending two offenders while recovering two dangerous weapons.
ARRESTED: A 16-year-old male from Atlantic City
CHARGES: Unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest
ARRESTED: A 15-year-old male from Egg Harbor City
CHARGES: Unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of hollow-point ammunition, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest
Both teens were remanded to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Facility.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
