2nd Alarm Fire in the Atlantic City Boardwalk Under Garden Pier
In real time, I’m investigating word of a 2nd Alarm fire, underneath the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
An Atlantic City Fire Department official has confirmed that the 2nd Alarm fire is currently in progress at 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
It has been reported to me by a second confidential source that the fire began under the Boardwalk, at Garden Pier Atlantic City.
Developer Bart Blatstein has been reimagining this iconic structure that was opened on July 19, 1913. It was formerly the home of the B.F. Keith's Theatre, Atlantic City Historical Museum and the Atlantic City Art Center.
Blatstein’s vision is for the Garden Pier to become a viable entertainment destination with art, music, food.
Garden pier is located across from The Showboat Atlantic City, which is owned by Blatstein.
In its previous iteration, it has served as the Atlantic City historical museum.
This is a developing story and I will be updating it shortly, as additional information becomes available about the fire.
ADDENDUM:
I have spoken with Bart Blatstein, who was on the scene to inspect the fire and he directly confirmed to me that the damage is minor.
This is great news as this iconic pier is about 110 years old and it is a magnificent structure, that simply can’t be replaced.
