The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has been incredibly effective about achieving guilty pleas from “bad guys.”

It’s never a bad idea to escape the expense and uncertainty of a criminal trial whenever and wherever possible.

Atlantic County Prosecutor Will Reynolds methodically and effectively keeps racking-up convictions.

The latest involves three Atlantic City, New Jersey men, who have pled guilty to a variety of drug distribution charges.

Alvin Whittaker has pled guilty to first-degree possession of more than 5 ounces of cocaine, with the intent to distribute.

Whittaker also pled guilty to a 4th degree contempt charge.

Juan Howard and James Clegg are guilty of 2nd degree conspiracy to distribute five ounces or more of cocaine.

Clegg also pled guilty to 3rd degree possession of heroin, with intent to distribute in a school zone.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office expects that Howard and Clegg will receive a 5 year sentence in New Jersey State Prison.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has released the following facts about these cases:

“On November 8, 2023, members of the Vice Unit of the Atlantic City Police Department were conducting surveillance in the area of Carver Hall in Atlantic City. Clegg was observed entering an apartment in Carver Hall while Whittaker was seated outside in a vehicle counting money. After Clegg exited the apartment, he entered the vehicle with Whittaker, and they drove away. A motor vehicle stop was conducted which led to the recovery of approximately 50 folds of heroin in Clegg's pocket. The folds were stamped "Gorilla." Additionally, a search of the vehicle revealed approximately $8,434.00 in U.S. currency. During the motor vehicle stop, Juan Howard arrived on scene. He was arrested pursuant to an active warrant and a search of his person revealed approximately $1,020.00 in U.S. currency,” said the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
