Five people were injured in what police called a "high-speed, head-on" crash in Egg Harbor Township Sunday morning.

Authorities say the accident happened around 9:30 on Delilah Road between Eagon Avenue and Canale Drive.

According to the EHT Police Department, a 2008 Mercedes Benz S550 being driven by 17-year-old man from Egg Harbor Township was traveling eastbound on Delilah Road when a 2012 GMC Arcadia, driven by 46-year-old Michele Mammone of Monmouth Junction, turned left in front of the Mercedes, causing a high-speed, head-on crash.

From there, the Mercedes then struck a 2023 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by 46-year-old Ayanna Wayner of New York City, that was parked on the shoulder of the road.

The Traverse came to rest approximately 50 yards from the point of impact, the Mercedes Benz against a utility pole, and the Arcadia in the westbound lane of Delilah Road, east of Eagon.

Occupants of both the Arcadia and the Mercedes had to be extricated by first responders.

In total, five people were taken to local hospitals with moderate injuries that were considered to be non-life threatening.

Delilah Road was closed in both directions for about two hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

Numerous agencies responded to the crash, including,

  • Egg Harbor Township Police Department
  • Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad
  • Egg Harbor Township Fire Departments from Farmington, Cardiff, and Bargaintown
  • Atlantic City International Airport Fire Department
  • Pleasantville Tri-care Ambulance
