91-year-old driver hits pedestrian in Longport, NJ

A pedestrian is recovering after being hit by a 91-year-old driver in Longport Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities say the accident happened at around 1:45 at 27th and Atlantic Avenue.

The Longport Police Department says an initial investigation revealed a 2016 Chevy Cruz struck a pedestrian, 53-year-old Tara Mikus of Linwood while attempting to turn onto Atlantic Avenue heading east.

Mikus was treated for injuries at the scene and taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for further care.

The driver, 91-year-old Marcia Chotiner of Margate, remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement.

Longport police remind drivers to exercise caution in high pedestrian traffic areas, like crosswalks, to ensure the safety of everybody on the road.
