BARNEGAT LIGHT — A body was found off shore Monday after a weekend in which three people drowned at the Jersey Shore.

The body was discovered around 8:45 AM by the U.S. Coast Guard a mile from the beach at Barnegat Light and reported to State Police, according to spokesman Trooper Alejandro Goez.

An autopsy by the Ocean County Medical Examiner will help determine the age and gender of the body.

Goez did not know of any reported missing persons or how long the body was in the ocean.

Rough water churned up by Hurricane Maria battered New Jersey beaches all weekend. Glen Carullo, 60, of Waldwick drowned in the ocean off Point Pleasant Beach. Joell Lanfrank, 44, of Seaside Park drowned in Seaside Park. Both incidents happened around 2 p.m. on Sunday.

A 34-year-old man from Parsippany drowned on Saturday at Seven Presidents Park in Long Branch.

Townsquare New Jersey Chief Meteorologist Dan Zarrow said rough surf and rip currents will continue to be a problem, with some big swell headed for the Jersey Shore with waves as high as 14 feet possible. He expects Maria's rain and wind to stay south of New Jersey.
