Assessment of Atlantic County, NJ Winter Storm Snow Removal
It’s Easy To Complain
The job of massive snow and ice removal is very challenging and the relatively small number of public works staff available to do it … they work incredibly hard … before, during and after such winter weather emergencies.
Right After The Storm Ended — I Drove On The Following Atlantic County, New Jersey Roads
Within just several hours following winter storm “Fern,” I personally drove on the following roads:
- Gunpowder Road, Egg Harbor Township (EHT).
- School House Road (EHT).
- Zion Road (EHT & Northfield).
- Bargaintown Road (EHT).
- Oak Avenue (Northfield).
- Mill Road (Northfield).
- Burton Avenue (Northfield).
- U.S. Route 9 (Northfield).
My Assessment Of The Snow & Ice Removal
The Local, County and State response was excellent.
My drive to work at 3:00 a.m. is typically about 15 minutes.
On Monday, January 26, 2026, I made the trip in a little over 30 minutes. I did not see a single car on the road during my ride to work.
The first pass made the roads passable. There were patches of ice throughout my commute … but, that’s understandable.
The crews addressed major roadways first, followed by the side streets.
This Morning
Most of the major roads are near fully clear, however, always beware that are some sudden patches of snow and ice can occur with no warning.
My commute this morning was about 20 minutes.
Be careful At Intersections & The End Of Streets
Approach very carefully. You will find patches of snow and ice at stop signs. Also, at intersections and other stop signs, snow may be piled high. This will affect your ability to see traffic coming in other directions. Be careful at all intersections and stop signs.
Thank You To All Of The Public Works Employees
You made it possible for all of us to get to work and other locations safely. Your hard work does not go by unnoticed.
