This is Rhode Island Avenue in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In this Tom Foley photo, you can see that the City of Atlantic City placed the bicycle lane in the middle of the street.

About this, Tom Foley Wrote on His Social Media Page

Only in Atlantic City do you put a bike lane in the center of the street way to go Marty (Small), wrote Foley.

I have been informed this a NEW sharing lane situation with cyclists/ bicyclists and automobiles. This is engineered correctly.

Marty Small Has A Bad Track Record With Atlantic City Roads

Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small is the “architect” of the so-called Atlantic City Road Diet. It would have been a disaster.

It was universally rejected by every single major Atlantic City share holder, including:

  • Atlantic City Casinos
  • AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center
  • Atlantic City business community

Had this been allowed to take effect, there would be no way is no way for stores to receive deliveries.

Just look at it! (The photo above) that I took on January 1, 2024.

You can clearly see a car driving in the bicycle lane.

And, also, as we predicted, bicycles will continue to ride in the middle of the road, which would have been more dangerous than ever because there would only have been one lane for cars in each direction.

This dangerous configuration was known as The Atlantic City "Road Diet."

Some "genius" (dripping with sarcasm) thought that it was a great idea to take four lanes that worked perfectly for generations... And, turn it into a 2-lane roadway, with a dedicated bicycle lane. Exactly as predicted from the beginning, we advised that cars would use the far right hand lane, that is designated for bicycles only... And use it as a driving lane.

We observed 6 cars in-a-row using the bicycle lane to drive (see below):
