How Are Various Atlantic City Area Cheesesteak Subs Different?

We have written twice in the past two years about the best cheesesteak subs in the Atlantic City, New Jersey area.

In this follow-up, we are going to share how the various Atlantic City area sub shops make very different cheesesteak subs.

For example, the type of meat used varies by each specific sub shop.

Atlantic City Sub Shop — Tilton Road, Northfield/Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey

The Atlantic City Sub Shop makes a proper, traditional cheesesteak. For my taste, I think what makes this sub the best that I’ve ever had is that it is made using 100% ribeye steak.

They do not substitute ribeye steak with any lesser cuts, and the meat is sliced fresh daily.

NOTE: In my view, Ribeye Steak has a richer, juicier, heavy marbling, which gives the sub its delicious flavor and tender texture.

A choice of Cooper Sharp, Provolone, or, American Cheese.

Their Italian Bread is always fresh. A hard, day-old sub roll destroys the quality of the cheesesteak sub.

Capri Pizza & Italian Grill — Tilton Road, Northfield, New Jersey — Since 1966

Capri Pizza and Italian Grill is not a sub shop. However, their cheesesteak is a very close, legitimate contender.

Owner Rocco Jiugliano (also) only uses 100% thinly sliced Ribeye Steak.

They prepare it with (various) melted cheeses and serve it on a traditional Atlantic City long sub roll — along with options such as fried onions, peppers, or mushrooms added to customer taste.
