A 23-year-old man from Atlantic City is facing charges after police say he burglarized a store in the city early Monday morning.

Atlantic City Police say they responded to a burglar alarm at a store in the 1500 block of Atlantic Avenue around 2:15 Monday morning. Arriving officers found the front window of the store had been smashed and items were stolen. Cops were able to obtain surveillance photos of the suspect and they alerted other officers to the description of the suspect.

Less than two hours later, officiers saw Jesus Cotto, who fit the description of the suspect, at Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and Atlantic Avenues. Cotto initially fled on his bike as cops approached, but after being chased for several blocks, he was arrested without incident after attempting to hide on the roof of a building.

Cops say Cotto was in possession of stolen items from the store as well as items used to commit the burglary.

Cotto is now facing burglary, criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest charges and was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility in Mays Landing.
