An Atlantic City man is likely facing several years in prison for attacking his girlfriend while she was sleeping.
On Monday, 41-year-old Calvin Gunn pleaded guilty to third-degree aggravated assault. Under the terms of a plea agreement, he is expected to be sentenced to a term of five years in state prison.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said on September 5th of last year, officers with the Atlantic City Police Department to a report of a woman being assaulted.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim, who reported that her boyfriend, Gunn, had entered her home while she was sleeping and attacked her, striking her multiple times in the head and face. As a result of that assault, the victim sustained persistent ringing in her ear.
The victim's children were present in the home at the time of the assault and heard their mother being assaulted.
Gunn fled the scene prior to police arriving, but they apprehended him later that day.
While pleading guilty, Gunn admitted he caused significant bodily injury to the victim by assaulting her.
Gunn remains incarcerated pending his sentencing, which is scheduled to occur sometime in May.
