Atlantic City Teen Sentenced to 20 Years for 2023 Fatal Stabbing
Mays Landing, N.J. — An Atlantic City man who stabbed a juvenile to death at an apartment complex in 2023 and then fled back to his own apartment with the knife still in his pocket has been sentenced to 20 years in state prison.
19-year-old Trumaine Clements learned his fate this past Thursday. Under the No Early Release Act, he must serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
Clements had pleaded guilty on March 31st to first-degree aggravated manslaughter, third-degree terroristic threats, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
The Stabbing
According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, on the night of August 16th, 2023, authorities responded to the Carver Hall Apartments in Atlantic City for a reported stabbing.
Officers and paramedics found a juvenile victim with a stab wound to the torso and attempted life-saving measures. The victim was pronounced dead in the early morning hours of the following day.
Surveillance footage showed Clements leave his apartment, meet the victim at an adjacent building, stab him in the torso, and flee back to his own apartment.
Officers arrived within minutes and arrested him there. The knife was still in his pocket.
Trouble at Juvenile Detention Center
Clements was a juvenile at the time of the stabbing and was detained at the Atlantic County Juvenile Detention Center in Egg Harbor City.
On March 8th, 2025, he broke the secured door to his room by kicking it multiple times, resulting in a criminal mischief charge.
Eleven days later, he threatened to shoot a youth worker in the face, adding a terroristic threats charge.
