Last Spring, 2022 Atlantic City, New Jersey Mayor Marty Small had Dredgie Wood’s Fish Heads Restaurant towed away from Gardner’s  Basin.

This was despite the fact that New Jersey Senator Vince Polistina had successfully negotiated with the state of New Jersey to keep Fish Heads open for the 2022 season.

This is a link to our coverage from May 7, 2022:

Small waited until a rain-soaked, blustery Saturday to do this dirty deed. It was political retaliation by Small against Wood.

Like a bad horror movie, Marty Small now strikes again on April Fool’s Day, 2023.

All of the Atlantic City businesses that utilize the water at Gardner’s Basin have received letters from the Small administration that they will not be permitted to open for business.

Most of these affected businesses are long-standing and they include:

Captain Jeff George - Atlantic City Cruises.

Lobster Boat - Frank Koch, who manages the last lobster boat in Atlantic City’s Gardner’s Basin. This operation has been there for the past 30-40 years.

We are going to reach out to Captain George for comment … as his boat Cruisn 1 is presently in the water at Gardener’s Basin.

We’ve been told by Gardner’s Basin sources that the reason Captain George’s boat is in the water, is because City of Atlantic City told him that he could put it there.

Captain George is a seasoned Captain. His boat would not be in the water at Gardner’s Basin right now if he didn’t expect to open for the season.

Now, everyone affected has received a letter from the City of Atlantic City that they are not allowed to operate.

We have received a copy of one of the letters, dated in late March, 2023. Normally we would publish the letter so that you can see it … however, Small’s track record of political retaliation is well established, Dredgie Wood, John Devlin, etc.

Without these great establishments being able to operate at Gardner’s Basin, here are a few examples of wonderful activities that will be lost.

In the letters, the Small administration writes that “The City is also performing repairs on the docks and replacing pilings. Please accept this correspondence as notice that the City will not be able to give possession until the dredging project and deck repairs are completed.”

We have been advised that the City was not doing any work over the past several months. It was a very mild winter. Why didn’t they prioritize getting this work done so that these important seasonal businesses would not be affected?

This is the latest example of incompetence demonstrated by Marty Small as Mayor of Atlantic City.

Right before the beginning of the spring and summer seasons … these hard working people are sent a very unwelcome letter from the city of Atlantic City titled: “Notification of Continued Close of Seasonal Operations Due To Dredging.”

These business owners are going to be significantly hurt and some could go out of business because of this.
