Atlantic City Man Pleads Guilty in 2022 Casino Stabbing
An Atlantic City man is facing several years in prison after a stabbing during a brawl at a casino nightclub in 2022.
On Monday, 27-year-old Dante Braxton pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree aggravated assault and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Incident Details
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says on the evening of November 24th, 2022, the Atlantic City Police Department responded to a nightclub at Harrah's Casino for a report of a large fight. There, cops found a man who had been stabbed in the elbow and abdomen.
According to officials, after stabbing the man, Braxton followed the victim and then threw a metal chair at him outside of the casino.
They also said that a further review of surveillance footage showed that Braxton went through a metal detector before entering the club, and although a metal detector activated when he went through it, security did not stop him.
Through surveillance and cell phone videos, officers identified Braxton as a suspect and during a court appearance, he admitted to stabbing the man.
Additional Guilty Plea
Braxton also pleaded guilty to unrelated indictments to possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute it, obstruction, and contempt of a drug offender restraining order.
Sentencing and Incarceration
Under the terms of a plea agreement, he is expected to be sentenced to an aggregate term of 7 1/2 years in state prison and, once out, he will be under three years of supervised release.
Braxton remains incarcerated in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending his sentencing, which is scheduled to happen in October.
