Atlantic City Race for Mayor: ‘Man Brutally Beaten, Almost to Death’
Bob McDevitt is running for Mayor of Atlantic City, New Jersey to help lead it back to its glory days as a safe and clean community for residents and visitors.
"Why am I running for mayor? .... It's clear there's a crime problem, we cannot walk the streets without looking over your shoulder. One corner up from my house a man was brutally beaten, almost to death, in a park. In a city park where children are supposed to play!,” said McDevitt.
McDevitt is the former 25-year President of UNITE-HERE Local 54.
Atlantic City has been the home to The McDevitt Family for 100 years.
McDevitt is running with a full slate of Atlantic City Council at Large candidates … along with running mates John Devlin, Steve Young and Akbar Hussain in the June, 2025 Democrat Primary.
Devlin is a retired career Atlantic City Police Officer, former President of the Atlantic City Board of Education and former Chairman of the Atlantic City Municipal Utilities Authority.
Devlin served for more than 20 years on the Atlantic City Board of Education.
Atlantic City Councilman George Tibbitt has previously publicly confirmed that Atlantic City “Mayor Marty Small lied to us. We owe John Devlin a public apology,” … which Tibbitt has previously provided over the airwaves of WPG Talk Radio 95.5 and multiple times on our digital platform.
Tibbitt will leave the Atlantic City Council on December 31,2025 and he has made a decision to run for Atlantic County Commissioner in the 2025 election.
Young has a long career in public - community service in service in Atlantic City, including:
- Atlantic City Planning Board.
- Peacekeeper, when working with law enforcement and residents.
- Directly assists residents, who have lived with inhumane conditions under the Atlantic City Housing Authority for the past 3 years.
“I believe that the residents still have hope, and this will fuel our campaign, further saying … “Keep Hope Alive in 2025!" a theme that was met with cheers at yesterday’s announcement rally on the Boardwalk outside of The Ritz Hotel.
”Now is the time to have clean and safe streets in Atlantic City,” said Young.
“We can only do it with a team, with no ego and no arrogance,” said Young.
Hussain is a 25-year resident of Atlantic City. Husssin an accountant, “who takes pride in his community and helps immigrants prepare for citizenship.”
“I support the community's culture and work with the Bangladeshi Press Club and the Atlantic City Cricket Team. There is a lack of safety in the South East Asian community and the entire community. We are working to make our city clean and safe for all our citizens. Atlantic City is one of the best cities in the United States but it struggles," said Akbar, who said he is focused on how the struggles the city faces are driving people away from investing, visiting and living here.”
The McDevitt, Devlin Young and Hussain campaign is going to be all about safety, cleanliness and public health for Atlantic City in order to return Atlantic City to its long status as “The World’s Playground.”
NOTE: Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small has confirmed that he is running for reelection. Small will do so while facing multiple criminal indictments for child abuse and witness tampering.
