Atlantic City State Takeover Bill Is Wrong: Should Defer To Senator
The latest New Jersey state takeover legislation for Atlantic City does not respect the home district state legislators; Senator Vince Polistina and Assemblyman Don Guardian.
Polistina and Guardian Know Best
The Democrat controlled legislature should listen to a demonstrated, successful State Senator (Polistina) and an Assemblyman, who was a respected and effective former Mayor of Atlantic City (Guardian).
Polistina and Guardian Have Proposed …
A rival bill that would return Atlantic City on a path towards self-governance … by initially returning the local functions of planning and zoning powers back to the control of the city … within the next decade.
State Control Of Atlantic City …
Began when former Governor Chris Christie was in office. That’s 2010-2018.
Atlantic City can’t remain under state control forever. That’s why Polistina and Guardian are right to create a pathway for Atlantic City to ultimately manage its own governmental affairs.
The New Democrat State Takeover Plan For Atlantic City
It’s called the, Municipal Stabilization and Recovery Act. It will extend the state's financial and developmental control over the City of Atlantic City for another six years … that’s until 2031.
It will likely provide the state with the power to name a master developer for Atlantic City. That’s too much control by the state.
The local Atlantic City government, coupled with a proper collaboration with Polistina and Guardian is a better approach.
The local, county and state leaders know what’s best for Atlantic City … not a Trenton centric approach.
