Atlantic City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade Canceled – Here’s Why
Word came Tuesday that the 2021 Atlantic City St. Patrick's Day Parade has been canceled for the second year in a row. The parade had been scheduled to strut down the boardwalk on Saturday, March 13th.
After all the things that have been canceled in the past year, you would think that we might be immune to the sadness of missing another beloved community event by now, but this cancellation hits especially hard.
Can you remember the disagreement that arose last mid-March, between parade lovers and those who were understandably afraid of the new coronavirus and concerned about the safety of having the parade?
It was the time when events first began to be canceled everywhere over COVID-19 concerns, but the organizers of the Atlantic City St. Patrick's Day Parade insisted the parade would happen on Saturday, March 14th, 2020.
That week leading up to the parade, as the country literally closed down around us, the people in charge of the Atlantic City St. Paddy's Day Parade held tough -- the parade would happen that Saturday.
By Thursday, they had changed their minds. The parade was canceled.
It must have been an extremely hard decision, but it was the right thing to do and there really was no other option at the time, except to say....we'll be back, bigger and better than ever in 2021! You just wait and see.
Tuesday, parade organizers canceled early, releasing a one-paragraph Facebook posting message.
We gave it our best shot and yes some of you called it (no need for "I told you so") unfortunately due to state restrictions on large gathers we have no choice but to postpone the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade until March 12th, 2022. Both parade organizers and city officials made a solid attempt to move the parade forward but ultimately the concern for public safety and large gathers has led to the postponement.
Notice that In that Facebook post, the people behind the St Patrick's Day Parade added a new event. The 2022 Atlantic City St. Patrick's Day Parade, scheduled for Saturday, March 12, 2022.
You won't want to miss that one. It will be the best St. Patrick's Day Parade ever. Hope springs eternal.
