The Atlantic County, New Jersey Sheriff’s Department is paying significant attention to the importance of proper training, along with implementing a viable K-9 Division.

Under Atlantic County Sheriff Joe “Tokyo" O'Donoghue, the Atlantic County Sheriff's Department has invested significant hours of focus into the professional development of Sheriff's Officers and the senior leadership team.

By The Numbers

Over the past 18 months, the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department staff have completed a total of 5,944 hours of professional development training as follows:

2025: 3,464 hours
2026 to date; 2,480 hours
Total = 5,944 hours

It should be noted that the above training hours does not include mandatory PTC hours. These are additional hours of training.
