Big Change For New Jersey Based M&M’s Chocolate Candy [Photos]

M&M’s candy is launching a brand new version of its popular candy-coated milk chocolate product just in time for its 85th Anniversary.

No More Artificial Dye

The new M&M’s product will feature only natural coloring. Therefore, the initial August, 2026 launch will only include:

red, yellow, orange, and green M&M candies.

Can’t Make The Blue and Brown M&M’s, Yet

You would think that brown would be the easiest to make, using only natural coloring. However, you need a little bit of blue to make the brown candy colored shell.

Safe, natural coloring for blue and brown M&M’s are currently too difficult to scale.

Why Can’t They Make The Blue & Brown M&M’s With Natural Dyes?

According to Mars, Incorporated:

Recreating a natural blue or brown is challenging because it requires spirulina extract. This blue-green algae powder is incredibly expensive and tends to cause mechanical clogging in candy-manufacturing machines.

Available for the new natural color M&M’s by 2028.

The Classic — Original M&M’s Version

Is not going anywhere and will still be available to purchase.
