Bob McDevitt is the longest-serving President in Atlantic City, New Jersey, UNITE-HERE Local 54 history.

We have learned that McDevitt will be leaving his position as President after more than 25 years.

McDevitt’s voluntary resignation will take effect on May 1, 2023.

McDevitt will be leaving on a high note, as he received 70 percent of the vote in his 11th and final election.

It was his highest vote total ever.

McDevitt continues to do his job as President, spending today in Trenton, New Jersey before the state legislature regarding a matter of great importance … the current Atlantic City Casino exemption regarding indoor smoking.

Since some may speculate about the reason for McDevitt’s departure, we have confirmed that the decision to leave his Presidency early is McDevitt’s voluntary decision and his alone.

Further, we have confirmed that McDevitt’s transition to his next position is known by him and he will make it known to the public during an in-studio “Hurley in the Morning” exclusive interview, which will take place some time over the next two weeks or so.

On May 1, 2023, Donna DiCaprio, McDevitt’s long-time Secretary/Treasurer will become the Acting President of UNITE-HERE Local 54.

DiCaprio is talented, highly competent and well prepared to lead South Jersey’s largest union.

McDevitt also survived a near death experience, in the not too distant past on June 16, 2021.

Following his near death experience, McDevitt returned to work just 7 1/2 months later, on Monday, January 31, 2022 to continue his work as President of UNITE-HERE Local 54.

This is miraculous, insofar as McDevitt literally died multiple times and had to be resuscitated just 7 1/2 months earlier.

He also endured the amputation of one of his feet, went through rehabilitation and a prosthetic limb, in order to be able to walk again.

We wrote about this extensively, see the link directly below.

Make no mistake about it, there is no mystery to be learned about why McDevitt is leaving his Local 54 Presidency before the end of his current term.

McDevitt’s announcement - which will take place on our program - within the next few weeks will prove this beyond any shadow of a doubt.

Stay tuned.
