BOOM! Atlantic City, NJ, man charged for setting off explosive
An Atlantic City man has been charged in connection to an explosion early Wednesday morning.
The Atlantic City Police Department says one of their officers was in the area of the 1500 block of Atlantic Avenue around 2:00 when she observed an explosion on the sidewalk and saw a person running from the area.
While investigating the blast, cops obtained surveillance video of the suspect who was running away from the scene. That suspect, later identified as 38-year-old Stacy Thomas of Atlantic City, was taken into custody less than two hours later in the 1100 block of Arctic Avenue.
Thomas has been charged with arson, unlawful possession of a destructive device, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of CDS paraphernalia. He was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Police say no persons were hurt nor businesses damaged in the incident.
Investigators determined that Thomas allegedly placed four butane canisters on the sidewalk before lighting a fuse that led to the explosion.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
