As we predicted yesterday, the new Mayor of Margate City, New Jersey is Michael Collins.

This result is as it should be, however, until today’s official reorganization meeting, the selection of Mayor and what department each Commissioner will lead … could not be discussed among the three or any two of them.

We can also confirm that Mayor Collins will serve as the Commissioner of Public Works.

Commissioner Catherine Horn will serve as the Commissioner of Public Safety.

Commissioner Blumberg will serve as the Commissioner of Revenue & Finance.

It’s understandable that Blumberg is disappointed that he is not the Mayor of Margate today.

Blumberg has been a Margate City Commissioner for 16 years and obviously feels that with his experience that he should have been made The Mayor.

I don’t want to rain on a very positive and beautiful day for Mayor Collins and Commissioner Horn … however, I must report that Blumberg abstained and did vote for Collins to be Mayor.

Once it became apparent that he did not have the votes to be mayor… Blumberg should have voted for Collins. It would have been the classy thing to do. It is the right thing to do.

I encourage Blumberg to go back and change his vote … which he is permitted to do by law. Make the vote unanimous. It’s a bad first decision.

The citizens of Margate cast substantially more votes for Collins and Horn … Than they did for Blumberg.

The Mayor should be Collins or Horn and now it is Collins.

Collins and Horn listened to the voters of Margate and did the right thing.

Introducing, Mayor Michael Collins (see below). Mayor Collins is the one on the right (wink).
