Camden Man Fatally Stabs Girlfriend in Lindenwold Then Dies

Lindenwold, N.J. — A Camden man fatally stabbed his girlfriend in Lindenwold last Thursday morning before later taking his own life, investigators say.

According to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, 53-year-old Marlene Carmichael of Lindenwold was found suffering from multiple stab wounds on the 500 block of Bilper Avenue just before noon on July 16th. She was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 2:22 PM.

Detectives identified her boyfriend, 64-year-old Harry Gibbs of Camden, as the person responsible for the stabbing.

Shortly after 3 PM, Camden County Police responded to the 1100 block of MacArthur Drive in Camden, where Gibbs was found in a vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was also taken to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 4 PM.

Investigators recovered both a firearm and a knife at the scene; the knife was later determined to be the weapon used in the Lindenwold stabbing.

Authorities say there is no active threat to the public.
