Cops in Atlantic City say an observant citizen led to the arrest of a man who was burglarizing a convenience store.

According to a press release, ACPD officers responded to the Gift & Convenience Store in the 3100 block of Atlantic Avenue for a report of a smashed front door just before 1:00 Monday morning. Responding officers found the front door open, a window smashed out, and a man inside the business.

As officers entered the store, 48-year-old Rafael Gonzalez of Atlantic City was arrested without incident.

Authorities say Gonzalez was found to be in possession of cash, change, and narcotic paraphernalia. During the burglary, he damaged a cash register and the back door in an unsuccessful attempt to escape.

Gonzalez was charged with burglary, theft, and possession of CDS paraphernalia; he was released on a summons with a future court date.
