A crash this past weekend in Mays Landing shut down a busy highway for 15 hours.

Route 40 Crash in Mays Landing

The accident happened just before 12:30 AM Saturday at the intersection of Route 40 / Harding Highway and New York Avenue.

The Hamilton Township Police Department says an investigation revealed 36-year-old Daniel Sabat of Mays Landing was driving westbound on Route 40 when his Volkswagen Jetta left the roadway and struck a traffic signal and a utility pole.

The impact caused the signal, pole, and wires to fall into the road.

Sabat was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-Mainland Campus for treatment of moderate injuries.

Route 40 Closed For 15 Hours

The New Jersey Department of Transportation and Atlantic City Electric responded to the scene and diverted traffic for approximately 15 hours.

Sabat was issued a summons for careless driving.
