Atlantic City Hall Will Be Named After Deceased Former Councilman
The Atlantic City, New Jersey, City Hall will be named after the late former City Council President, Ernest Coursey, who recently passed away at age 62.
The vote to approve the Coursey Ordinance does not appear to be in doubt.
Coursey’s Public Record In Atlantic City
Coursey‘s Record of public service is extensive, including:
- Atlantic City 3rd Ward Councilman.
- Atlantic City Council President .
- Deputy Mayor under former Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford.
- Chief of Staff under current Mayor Marty Small.
- Former Atlantic County Freeholder.
- Atlantic County Commissioner.
- Aide to former United States Senator Robert Torricelli.
Some Members Of The Public Will Disagree
I predict that tonight's vote Will be anonymous in favor of Coursey.
However, some members of the public will oppose this, stating their belief that Atlantic City Hall is everyone’s City Hall… And, that it should not be named after any one person.
Coursey Will Join New Jersey’s Late Lieutenant Governor With A Naming Right
Former New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver previously had a multi-million dollar courtyard (at Atlantic City hall) named after her.
Coursey will join Oliver, with the entire Atlantic City Hall named after him.
Mayor Marty Small’s Idea
Although it is the duty of the Atlantic City Council to facilitate the Coursey Ordinance … this is a proposal of Marty Small.
City Council Will Vote For Coursey Tonight
At the regular meeting of the Atlantic City Council, which is being held tonight at 5:00 p.m.
