The Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey Police Department, in collaboration with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and multiple other local law enforcement agencies … will be conducting a DWI checkpoint operation.

It will take place on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

The Egg Harbor Township Police Department:

has responded to six (6) fatal crashes since the beginning of 2024, and 25 crashes involving impaired drivers. The goal of this checkpoint is to raise awareness of the dangers of consuming alcohol and/or drugs prior to getting behind the wheel of a motor vehicle along with high visibility enforcement. We will have zero tolerance for motorists who decide to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to the Egg Harbor Township Police Department.

Representatives from The John R. Elliott HERO Campaign will be participating in this effort.

This organization has been a force for good for the past 24 years.

Ensign John Elliott, whom the HERO campaign was founded in memory of, was a resident of Egg Harbor Township and a 1996 graduate of EHT High School; who had his life taken by an impaired driver in July of 2000, 2 months after graduating from the US Naval Academy. John was his 1996 High School class President and was loved by all who knew him, said the Egg Harbor Township Police Department.

This is a very good law enforcement tool … when they announce DWI checkpoints in advance. They want the public to know that the checkpoints are taking place.

There is no doubt that law enforcement operations such as this, really work and save lives.
