Egg Harbor Twp., N.J. — Authorities in Egg Harbor Township say a domestic violence situation was resolved after an officer used less-than-lethal ammunition.

Police Respond to Domestic Violence Call on Ivins Ave.

According to the EHT Police Department, just before 1:00 early Friday morning, several officers responded to a report of a domestic violence incident on Ivins Avenue where a man was allegedly threatening his wife and daughter with a knife.

At the scene, cops made contact with the man, who they say was outside, still holding the knife, and screaming at his wife, who was locked inside the home.

Police described the encounter that followed in detail:

The man advanced toward officers a short time later with the knife still in his hand. Despite several orders for him to drop the knife, he continued to advance with it. Ultimately, a 40 mm less lethal impact round was deployed by Ofc. Francesco Nastasi, striking the man in his mid section.

Officials said that round was successful and he was taken into custody. He was then taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility on multiple weapons charges.

The names of those involved are being withheld, as is often the case in domestic violence situations.

Family Receives Support Following Incident

Police said in a statement, "We are thankful that a very hostile situation was able to be resolved without any loss of life or property and have provided resources for the family to get through the aftermath of the event."
