• A man living in Chicago pleaded guilty to furnishing a false, forged, and counterfeit passport
  • Federal authorities say he mailed fake U.S. passport cards and other identification documents to a NJ address

NEWARK, N.J. – A man formerly of Gwinnett County, GA, who currently lives in Chicago, has admitted to furnishing false U.S. passport cards through the mail.

38-year-old Juma Wajid, also known as "Jay Khan" and "Jamal Anthony," pleaded guilty in Newark federal court to a charge of furnishing a false, forged, and counterfeit passport.

Federal authorities say Wajid used an online account to send mailings that contained six or more fake U.S. passport cards and other identification documents that he created.

In August 2024, law enforcement purchased five phony U.S. passport cards, as well as additional documents from Wajid, who believed that the false documents that he created were going to be used to commit bank fraud.

Wajid created the documents and mailed them to an address in New Jersey in exchange for payment in cryptocurrency.

He now faces up to ten years in prison and/or a fine of up to $250,000.

U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer credited special agents of the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness for their work in this case.
