Fatal Construction Accident in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey

The Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey Police Department has confirmed that a construction worker has died following an onsite accident at a work site.

On Monday, January 28, 2025, a slab of concrete collapsed on top of a 23 year-old male construction worker.

The victim’s identity has not been released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

The Egg Harbor Township Police Department has revealed the following information about this fatal accident:

”On this date at approximately 1510 hours, a roofing crew was cleaning up at the end of the day after conducting demolition/construction on the exterior of the Clubs at Tilton. 2 units have staircases on the 2' floor that meet halfway down and merge into 1 staircase, that goes to ground level. At the merge, there is a concrete slab. The 23 year-old male was underneath the slab cleaning up, when the slab collapsed on top of him. The worker suffered severe internal injuries.. EHT EMS and AtlanticCare Paramedics rushed him to AtlanticCare Atlantic City for emergency surgery. He ultimately succumbed to his injuries,” said Egg Harbor Township Police Department Captain Cherie Burgan.

Captain Burgan is the Operations Bureau Commander of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department.

A woman and child were located in one of the 2nd floor units. They were advised to remain in place, until a ladder was placed to safely bring them down.

The management of The Clubs at Tilton has placed affected residents in a hotel until further notice.

The Egg Harbor Township Volunteer Fire Department members from Cardiff and Bargaintown directly assisted in the evacuation of the occupants.

The Egg Harbor Township Building Inspector was also on the scene and Egg Harbor Township notified OSHA in a prompt and transparent manner.
