Five People Indicted for Stealing $1.4M From Elderly Family Member

Five people who took advantage of an elderly family member have all been indicted after they collectively stole more than $1.4M from the victim while she was supposed to be under their care.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni said that after the Colts Neck woman's husband passed away in 2012, her sister Concetta Amato, 90, of Freehold and her nephew Vincent Amato, 57, of Lincroft were named power of attorney and took control of the finances due to her diminished mental capacity.

Between September 2013 and July of 2017, Concetta, Vincent, the victim's niece Maria Sanzillo, 59, of Staten Island, nephew Peter Sanzillo, 72, of Staten Island, great-niece Alia Alquran, 31, of Florida and Vincent's business partner Lorrie Martin, 55, of Matawan defrauded the victim of the majority of her estate.

The indictment charges Vincent Amato, Concetta Amato, Lorrie Martin, Maria Sanzillo, Peter Sanzillo and Alia Alquran with second degree Theft of Moveable Property, second degree Theft by Failure to make Required Disposition, second degree Theft of Identity, and second degree Conspiracy to Commit Theft of Movable Property.

The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Joshua D. Detzky.
