For Whom the Vandals Toll — Someone Stole Pipes from Freehold Boro Church
It's the second reported church theft at the Jersey Shore in a week as organ pipes have been ripped from their bearings and stolen from the First United Methodist Church in Freehold Borough.
The First United Methodist Church of Freehold made an announcement on their Facebook page on Wednesday of the theft from behind their altar.
"It appears someone gained access to the sanctuary last night with the intent of stealing pipes from the organ."
Church officials said that this led to the collapse of the pipes and subsequently the organ itself.
"While the damage is shocking and disturbing, we thank God that no one was injured and nothing was stolen!"
Church services will continue this weekend as their community prays for diving intervention in finding the person responsible for the crime and coming together as one flock.
"We will still be worshiping God this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. We will not let this crush our spirits! Please join me in praying for our Trustees as they work to fix this issue. May we also pray for the person(s) desperate enough to commit this crime. I also want to thank the Freehold Boro Police for their quick response and thorough investigation!" Pastor Wil said.
Freehold Borough Police have not yet returned a phone call requesting comment on the investigation into the theft related incident as of Thursday morning.
