Former Atlantic City Housing Director To Spill ‘Problems’ On-Air

Matt Doherty will be appearing with us on-air this Tuesday, October 24, 2023 for the 9:00 a.m. hour on WPG Talk Radio 95.5

Doherty is the former Executive Director of The Atlantic City Housing Authority.

Doherty was unceremoniously fired by the Atlantic City Housing Authority Board on September 7, 2023.

Incredibly, Doherty was fired because he publicly exposed the financial wrongdoings of the Atlantic City Housing Authority Board.

During a previous on-air interview, Atlantic City Councilman George Tibbitt told me … "This is exactly what happens when you hire the right person (Doherty) and he starts asking all of the right questions,” said Tibbitt.

Tibbitt also confirmed to me that Doherty told him to expect that the residents of Stanley Holmes Village should be preparing for another cold winter … with potentially no heat or hot water.

Should this occur, it is beyond a public disgrace and embarrassment.

The residents have dealt with HVAC issues for years and also their units are regularly infested with insects and rodents.

Right before Doherty was fired, he uncovered that $ 400,000 had been paid to consultants for alleged work that should have been performed by Atlantic City Housing Authority staff members that are already on the agency’s payroll.

I am also prepared to ask Doherty a question on-air this Tuesday morning about additional alleged spending that will make the $ 400,000 scheme look like peanuts.

Doherty was very focused on making sure that the residents of Stanley Holmes Village had heat and hot water this fast approaching winter season.

The Atlantic City Housing Authority does not have a sense of urgency when it comes to providing the most basic services required for its residents.

Doherty told me back on September 7, 2023 that the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development should takeover the direct management of the Atlantic City Housing Authority.

The Atlantic City Housing Authority board is perhaps one of the worst run agencies in America.

In fact, The United States Housing and Urban Development has formally declared that the Atlantic City Housing Authority is a "troubled" agency.

The Atlantic City Housing Authority failed an audit in 2022 and has been cited for violating dozens of HUD policies over the years.

Doherty is the former Mayor of Belmar, New Jersey and also the former Executive Director of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority.
