Bassford Will Be Missed

Bassford was never afraid to say what needed to be said … when it needed to be said. His presence was always felt on the governing body and he will be very difficult to replace.

Current Mayor Tony Coppola, Jr. On Tom Bassford

We caught up with Mayor Coppola, who said:

He is going to be truly missed. We worked closely together and I consider him a friend. There was no better wingman one could have than Tom Bassford. He was a staunch Conservative that readily would debate the merits of his ideology with anyone that would challenge them.....or challenge anyone that Tom considered a friend.

Funny story:

Tom was happily retired from politics after serving on council and as mayor of Galloway. It was not until Jan of 2020 when a Republican member of Council flipped and unseated me as mayor that Tom Bassford became reenergized. He showed up to every meeting and sat in the front row, outraged, like much of the community. He returned to our republican club meetings and was put on the ballot the following election. He remained involved and loyal until he announced he will be moving, said Mayor Coppola.

Look at Mayor Bassford (arms folded) in the front row of the photo below. These were difficult times in Galloway Township back in January, 2020. The photo below shows Bassford staring intensely from the front row of the crowd at a tense council meeting. Bassford is fearless.
