It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of former New Jersey Governor Jim Florio last night at age 85.

I met Governor Florio decades ago , when I was a Ventnor City Board of Education Member. He was always accessible and helpful, whenever I reached out to him.

Then, when we had the privilege of becoming a radio talkshow host in the Atlantic City area (31 years ago), I reached out to Governor Florio to ask him if he would be our first guest to help launch our program on then WFPG AM 1450.

Our radio program launched on July 1, 1992. Governor Florio made the trip from Trenton to Atlantic City in order to appear in studio.

Governor Florio was so generous and at the end of the one hour (on-air) commitment that he had made to us, he asked if he could stay for a second hour.

Governor Florio was a polished gentleman and a tenacious fighter when necessary. He also possessed the quality trait of being able to work well with the loyal political party opposition.

One example of this was former New Jersey Senator William Gormley, who did effective business for Atlantic County, Atlantic City and the state of New Jersey with Governor Florio.

For inclusion in this article, Senator and Gormley shared the following comment about Governor Florio with us:

"We would not have a Convention Center or Rail Terminal without Governor Florio." Frankly, the same could be said about Gormley regarding that comment about Governor Florio.

Today, we take this opportunity to honor the life and times of former New Jersey Governor Jim Florio.

I am forever grateful to Governor Florio for his significant role in helping us launch, what has now been a 31-year career in broadcasting.
