Several local law enforcement agencies were searching for a man Sunday evening who fled from police, crashed the stolen van he was driving into a tree, and then ran into a wooded area.

Galloway Township Police say one of their officers attempted to stop a minivan at Route 9 and Seaview Ridge Drive around 8:45 Sunday night. As the officer approached the van, the driver left the scene at a high rate of speed. The van crashed into a tree at Jimmie Leeds and New Leaf Court; that's where the driver fled into the woods.

At about this time, according to a press release, police learned that the van had been stolen from a residence in Smithville just 15 minutes prior to the motor vehicle stop.

Several local law enforcement agencies, including a helicopter from the State Police, searched the area without finding the suspect.

The only description available is that the suspect is a white male.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Galloway Township Police at (609) 652-3705.
