Alleged Road Rage Shooting Shocks Stockton University Area
The man who authorities say shot a woman in the face during a road rage incident earlier this month near the campus of Stockton University in Galloway Township will remain behind bars pending trial.
On Thursday, a judge detained 46-year-old Ernest W. Heinz of Port Republic on charges that include attempted murder and aggravated assault.
Victim Shot in the Face
It was on the afternoon of September 11th when the Galloway Township Police Department was called to Jimmie Leeds Road near Stockton University for a report of a shooting.
The victim in this case, 42-year-old Maritza Arias-Galva of Galloway Township, and bystanders reported that an unknown man had allegedly pulled his vehicle alongside her car and shot her in the face before fleeing the scene.
Within hours, officials located the suspect's vehicle and they took Heinz into custody.
Prosecutors say police, who have called this a case of road rage, have obtained surveillance video "showing Heinz with a handgun in his hand minutes after the shooting."
The incident sent the Stockton campus into lockdown for about three hours.
Published reports have indicated that Heinz had an acting career and had been involved in a small handful of movies.
Judge Orders Alleged Shooter Held in Jail
He was represented at Thursday's hearing by Robin Lord, Esq., of Trenton, and will remain lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 31st.
Arias-Galva continues to recover from her injuries.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
