A Galloway Township man, who has recently been charged with murder, is headed to prison for a decade on an unrelated gun charge.

Kalief Lyons of Galloway, NJ, Sentenced

On Tuesday, 35-year-old Kalief Lyons was sentenced to ten years in state prison for second-degree certain persons not to possess firearms.

Back on November 30th, 2022, Galloway Township police responded to a call that a man, later identified as Lyons, had brandished a handgun. Hours later, police located the gun in a vehicle Lyons previously occupied. The gun had an illegal large-capacity ammunition magazine with 13 illegal hollow-point ammunition rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber.

Authorities also said Lyons was found with 75 wax folds of suspected heroin and five small rocks of suspected crack cocaine.

Lyons’ codefendant in that case, Matthew Lynch, is scheduled for sentencing on July 9th.

Charged With Murder

While out awaiting sentencing on that gun charge, Lyons was charged with the May 9th murder of 38-year-old Baseem Taliaferro at a home on West Pleasant Avenue in Pleasantville.
