A Galloway Township man has been indicted in connection to a tragic accident last summer that claimed the life of an 8-year-old boy.

25-year-old Edward W. Johnston has been indicted on an aggravated manslaughter charge after an investigation determined he crashed into a car that was parked along the White Horse Pike in Absecon during the early morning hours of July 23rd.

On that day at about 3:25, an 8-year-old boy from Philadelphia was sleeping in his family's car that was parked along Route 30 as his father was reportedly fishing in the immediate area.

Authorities say Johnston crashed into that car, killing the boy.

At the time, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says Johnston was intoxicated and driving recklessly at a high rate of speed.

The case was investigated by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Crash Investigation Unit with cooperation from the Absecon Police Department.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
