It's been a busy couple of weeks for officers in one Atlantic County Municipality.

Hamilton Twp. PD Sees Nearly 800 Calls for Service in Two Weeks

The Hamilton Township Police Department took to Facebook Tuesday morning and reported that from April 16th through the 30th, their officers responded to nearly 800 calls for service.

During that period, there were 35 domestic violence calls, 71 accidents, 436 traffic stops with 187 tickets written, and 24 people were arrested.

Among those two dozen people was one person who was charged with, among other things, possession of dum-dum bullets.

What are Dumdum Bullets?

Now, we write lots of news stories regarding people being arrested, but that charge isn't one that we see too often.

Intrigued, we hopped online, and Wikipedia provided this definition:

Expanding bullets, also known colloquially as dumdum bullets, are projectiles designed to expand on impact. This causes the bullet to increase in diameter, to combat over-penetration and produce a larger wound, thus dealing more damage to a living target. For this reason, they are used for hunting and by police departments, but are generally prohibited for use in war.

So the fact that two cops encountered someone who, apparently, was rather heavily armed with guns and illegal ammo is a good example of the dangers that law enforcement officers face every day. That full arrest record is listed below (April 17th).
