Harry Hurley Exclusive: Confidential Sources Reveal a Major Atlantic City Shake-Up is in the Works
Well placed Trenton sources have provided the following exclusive to "Hurley in the Morning," on the strict condition that I protect the identities of my sources.
My sources have stated to me that In the near future, New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney, State Senator Jim Whelan, and Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo will be proposing what in essence will be a state takeover of Atlantic City.
The Atlantic City Mayor and Council would be left with authority over only the least important, ministerial duties.
I do not have any confirmation that I can share at this time regarding Governor Chris Christie's position on this matter.
Should they succeed in stripping Atlantic City of its home rule, this makes the potential upcoming November 8, 2016, General Election ballot question to attempt to bring casinos to North Jersey all the more crucial.
The ballot question, if it passes statewide, would constitute an amendment to The New Jersey state Constitution.
Assemblyman Chris Brown will be appearing live on "Hurley in the Morning" on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 from 7:35 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. to discuss the final legislative voting session from 1/11/16.
I will also ask Assemblyman Brown for his thoughts regarding a potential state takeover of Atlantic City.
