Dining Brands Global, the parent company of both IHOP and Applebee's, announced that neither has recovered financially from the mandatory shutdown of indoor dining earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to EatThis.com.

Whiles sales have rebounded between July and September, Dining Brands Global says a 40 percent drop in profit from the first half of 2020 has forced them to make cuts and close locations.

Take out and delivery business has kept most IHOP and Applebee's afloat during the pandemic, accounting for a third of sales since July, EatThis reports.

South Jersey is home to more Applebee's restaurants, about a dozen, compared to IHOP. IHOP's are in Mays Landing, Williamstown, Berlin, Cherry Hill, and Vineland. There's been no officially announcement yet from Dining Brands Global about the fate of our locations. Hopefully, the closings don't affect your favorite.

It's been heartbreaking to watch so many businesses be affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. It's happening on the local and national level. Many retailers, like Gap, Bed Bath & Beyond, Littman Jewelers, and UIta, have recently announced a similar scaling back of operations, closing or consolidating many of it's locations, or pushing the focus to their online services. Gap reportedly intends to fully pull out of all shopping malls.

We'll continue to update this story as more details become available.
