Is Atlantic City A Food Desert? Every Homeowner Gets $500 Grant
Right as New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is slated to declare the COVID-19 pandemic over officially transitioning it to the endemic phase an Atlantic City leader has sent out an email that advises that every homeowner in Atlantic City is entitled to receive a $500 Grant.
Augusta Garrett is President of the Venice Park Civic Association. His email was sent out this past Friday, March 4, 2022.
The email is titled:
‘500 Grant to homeowners’
It was a follow-up correspondence directed to those who did not attend a recent Venice Park Civic Association meeting.
Garrett’s email was sent to me by a direct recipient of the email.
The email from Garrett declares:
“EVERY homeowner can qualify. To those who did not attend the VPCA meeting, here is what was learned at the meeting.
Part I add your address
Part II Check off Food Insecurity
Part IV Sign, Print Name and Date
Return to attention of
Asst. City Solicitor
Karl Timbers, Esq.
1301 Bacharach Blvd, Suite 406
Atlantic City, NJ 08401
Garrett further states in the email that “Every homeowner in Atlantic City qualifies under Food Insecurity and is not making a false or misrepresented statement because AC is a Food Desert.”
The email is signed:
Augusta Garrett
President VPCA
Before applying for any Grant, you should investigate all of the parameters, to determine if you actually qualify, as you do not want to unwittingly commit fraud.
There have been a number of Grant programs made available during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We do not confirm or deny the eligibility of Atlantic City homeowners being eligible for this alleged $500 Grant.
The former homeowner who sent the communication to us does not support of this Grant, writing the following:
“Please see below an email I received from the local Rep of the Venice Park Civic Association. Basically no matter what your income, if you are a resident of A.C. you can get a $500 grant because A.C. has been designated a food desert. How is this a good use of tax dollars? I lived in Venice Park from 2008 till last summer and there was always a giveaway of some sort. If you need help I’m all for it, but this is just a loose giveaway,” concludes the homeowner.
