Jail, $500 Fine Proposed for Not Wearing a Mask While Shopping in NJ
If you don't like being told you have to wear a mask while you are shopping indoors in New Jersey, you won't like this news.
According to NJ.com, state lawmakers have introduced a bill that would send you to jail for up to 30 days and fine you up to $500 if you refuse to wear a mask while you are shopping inside a store.
Assemblyman Ralph Caputo said in a statement Friday published by NJ.com, "There needs to be some sort of penalty to drive home the point that this [mask] mandate is not optional."
Should the bill be passed, it would remain a law as long as Executive Order 103 is in effect, which mandates masks be worn. The order was signed by Gov. Murphy back in April.
Patch.com reports the bill has been referred to the Assembly Judiciary Committee.
