Longport, N.J. — Three juveniles were arrested early Sunday morning after officers responding to a suspicious activity call found them on a construction site and determined they had been breaking into vehicles in the surrounding neighborhood.

According to the Longport Police Department, two of its officers located the trio on a construction site in the area of South 15th Avenue. All three were taken into custody without incident and transported to headquarters for processing.

Margate City Police assisted in securing the perimeter.

Following consultation with the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, the juveniles were charged with burglary, theft, and defiant trespass. All three were released to their parents pending appearances in Atlantic County Family Court.

Longport Police used the arrests as an opportunity to remind residents that many vehicle burglaries are crimes of opportunity, often involving unlocked doors. The department is encouraging everyone to lock their car every night, take their keys/key fobs and valuables inside, and secure their garage and home entrances.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
