One man is dead following a house fire in Camden County Wednesday afternoon.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office says the blaze started around 12:30 on the 100 block of Washington Avenue in Laurel Springs.

WPVI-TV reports the structure was a house that was broken up into four apartments.

Richard Macko, who lives across the street, told 6ABC, "The fire was coming out of the window. The police were at the front door trying to get it open. They weren't able to gain entry."

Authorities say their investigation is active and ongoing. As a result, the identity of the man has not yet been released.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Jason Roland of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit at (856) 225-5125.
