
Egg Harbor Twp., NJ, Man Dies Crossing Route 40 in Mays Landing
An Egg Harbor Township man was killed while crossing Route 40 in Mays Landing Thursday night.
At about 7:40 PM, officers with the Township of Hamilton Police Department responded to the intersection of Route 40 and Cantillon Blvd. for a pedestrian-motor vehicle crash.
Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, 44-year-old Michael Alvarez of Egg Harbor Township, attempted to cross Route 40 when he was struck by a Chevrolet Equinox, being driven by 48-year-old Jocelyn Valencia of Vineland, who was traveling westbound.
Following that collision, Alvarez was then struck by a Ford Fusion being driven by 45-year-old Tauheedah Hadi of Mays Landing, who was traveling eastbound on Route 40.
Alvarez suffered fatal injuries from the crash.
No additional injuries were reported and both drivers remained on scene. The roadway was shut down for approximately four hours while the crash was investigated.
